Encore by Eda
By Ellen Richardson
Here is a Unique pattern in Carnival glass that does not appear anywhere (as it was not produced in Carnival Glass by EDA) See below.

The pattern is ENCORE and it was made by EDA of Sweden. The pattern is a deep cut geometric and was originally made in cut crystal for a famous Department store in Sweden and was in their catalogue in 1915. In the early 1920’s a few EDA workers went to the Imperial glass factory in USA to see how iridized glass was made. It wasn’t until around the mid 1920’s that EDA started doing iridized pieces.
This pattern in a breakfast set came from the home of one of the Eda factory workers. I obtained these pieces in the early ’90’s. I did lots of research and contacted the EDA Glass Museum, and the Swedish Glass Museum. They both said it was not produced in Carnival Glass and was probably a one-off trial by those workers. It does not appear in any of EDA’s Carnival Glass Catalogues, but was definitely an EDA pattern. They sent me a copy of the page from the Dept. Store catalogue.

So I obtained a Blue Breakfast Set, a Marigold Sugar and a single Blue sugar.
Here is the Marigold Sugar:

Dimensions Overall width 6.25 ins. Overall height 3 ins. Top opening 4.25 ins. Base Diameter 3 ins.
Dimensions for the Blue Creamer (shown above earlier) are – Overall width 5.5 ins. Overall Height 3.25 ins. Top diameter 3.75 ins. Base Diameter 2.5 ins.
How often does this happen?
