Grand Thistle, Riihimaki

[column-half-1][/column-half-1][column-half-2][/column-half-2]

It's hard to miss this distinctive angular shape with the large intaglio pattern. The diamond-shaped base is carried into the rest of the pitcher and the tumbler. Also known as Wide Panel Thistle. Grand Thistle is also found in chop plates and small plates. The marigold 11 1/2-inch chop plate (above right) sold for $300 in 2002, although it was identified as Western Thistle. A 6-inch plate in marigold sold at a live auction in 2004 for $210.
