Intaglio Strawberry, Northwood
Year(s) of Production: Circa 1908-1909
Pattern Description: Strawberry clusters surround the center of these bowls. The interior is smooth as the intaglio (sunk below the surface) pattern is on the exterior.
Similar Patterns: Northwood Intaglio Apple and Pear, Northwood Intaglio Cherries, Northwood Intaglio Thistle
This intaglio pattern (exterior, pattern pressed in) with strawberries was a very early Northwood pattern – probably first done in goofus glass (with gold and red paint on the exterior to make it look like fruit when looking into it) is on very thick glass. There are 4 intaglio patterns by Northwood; the other 3 are Intaglio Cherries, Intaglio Apple & Pear and Intaglio Thistle. The Intaglio Strawberry bowls measure about 9 1/2″ wide and 2 3/4″ tall. They have 8 large scallops on the top and a plain base with a circle (not signed with an N). The interior is plain.
