This intaglio pattern (exterior, pattern pressed in) with pears and apples was a very early Northwood pattern – probably first done in goofus glass (with gold and red paint on the exterior to make it look like fruit when looking into it) is on very thick glass. There are 4 intaglio patterns by Northwood, all done in large bowls – 2 of the patterns came with small bowls (berry sets). The large bowls measure about 9 1/2″ wide and 2 3/4″ tall. The sauce bowls are about 4 5/8″ wide and are 1 3/4″ tall. They have 8 large scallops on the top and a plain base with a circle (not signed with an N). The interior is plain.
