About Valentine

This exterior pattern is characterized by large hearts containing a hobstar and was first made in non-iridized crystal bowls in 1906 (pattern number #14). This design is considered to be at the start of the carnival era. The interior is plain and it has an intricate star pattern in the base. Valentine was probably sold as berry sets, as there are small bowls or sauces (under 5″) and larger bowls up to 11″ in diameter. The large bowls are smooth edged and the sauces (or berries) have an interesting scalloped edge treatment with sawteeth and points. Most have the Northwood trademark of an underlined N in a circle.
